How to Use:

1. Soak the mix: Soak 1 sachet in 150ml of hot water for 3 mins.

2. Fry the mix: Heat a few tablespoons of oil in a pan. Fry soaked onion mix (including water) for 3-5 mins on medium high heat.

3. Continue with your recipe: Follow the steps of your recipe as normal.

Seal Tight: Ensure the packet is sealed tightly after each use or keep the spices in an airtight container such as a jar.

Avoid Moisture: Keep away from stoves and sinks to prevent humidity.

Cooking the Spice Mix

Chicken Curry Recipe

Serves: 4  |  Cooking Time: 30 Minutes |  Mild to Medium

Ingredients

  • 1 sachet East at Home Onion, Garlic & Ginger Mix
  • 400ml water
  • 4 tablespoons (60ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 & ½ teaspoon (5g) BIR Mix Powder
  • 1 teaspoon (7g) salt
  • 600g chicken (thigh or breast) cut into chunks 
  • 2 medium tomatoes (chopped)
  • Handful of chopped coriander (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak Onion Mix: Soak onion mix in 150ml hot water for 3 mins.
  2. Fry Onion Mix: In a pan, heat 4 tbsp oil. Fry soaked onion mix for 3 mins on medium high heat.
  3. Add Spices & Salt: Lower heat, add mix powder and salt. Cook for 1 min then add 50ml water, cook on low for 2-3 mins until oil separates.
  4. Add Chicken: Turn heat to medium high and add chicken, coat in spices. Cook for 3 mins.
  5. Add Tomatoes: Stir in tomatoes and cook on med heat for 2 mins stirring occasionally.
  6. Add Water: Turn heat to medium high and add 200ml water. Cook for 10-15 mins until the sauce thickens and oil starts to separate on top.
  7. Finish: Add coriander, stir, and rest for 5-10 mins before serving.

Tips: 

  • For a drier curry, cook a bit longer without the lid.
